19TH C. TERRACOTTA BURMESE NAGA

I have been fortunate over the years to find just a few Burmese terracotta pieces that have survived virtually intact.  Most of these pieces are broken and repaired or have significant losses; since terracotta is very fragile.  This one is in spectacularly good shape, especially considering the elaborate detail in the head, teeth and trident.  He is also substantial, measuring 17 1/2 inches high.  I actually bought this for myself, thinking I had the perfect place for it in our new apartment.  Alas, it is too big.  What a wonderful, powerful piece, though.

rubies to those they favor." - Holloworbs.com
