18TH C. BRONZE LAOTIAN BUDDHA

On the most recent trip to Asia, I was fortunate to find a number of excellent Laotian buddhas, of which this is one example.  It is  more of a folk style, with a regal face, nice proprotions, and an even brown patina with some remains of gilding.  It stands 13.5 inches high with the base.  There is a slight loss to the right ear which looks to me like a casting flaw. The original base was taken off and melted down which is very common in these Laotian statues.  The metal was recycled into other statues.  It is fitted into a custom wooden base.  I really like all the Laotian buddhas I got that trip, but just can't keep them all.  This is one of the more flowing, regal ones.
