18TH C. BRONZE/LACQUER LAOTIAN BUDDHA

On the most recent trip to Asia, I was fortunate to find a number of excellent Laotian buddhas, and this is one of the two larger ones.  He has the more unusual Laotian face, which you can also see in the wooden stele in Gallery 2, row 2, far right.  He has been very heavily lacquered a number of times, so there is a very thick coat of lacquer on him.  He stands 21.5 inches high, and is extremely heavily cast.  The finial was damaged during shipment and has been restored.  There is some cracking to the very thick lacquer from age, otherwise condition is excellent.  He has a very benign, sunny aura about him.
