18TH C. CHIANG RUNG BUDDHA

This large, substantial Buddha is from the area of Northern Thailand near Laos, and it shows both Thai and Lao influences.  The base is mostly Ayutthaya with a bit of Lao;  the body and head are more Lao.  It is quite large, at 15 ½” high, and is very heavily cast.  It has a coppery and coppery-white patina.  It is missing a couple of the teeth on the base, but overall is in excellent condition.  It has a much more solid earthy ambiance than some of the more ethereal ones we have on the site.  This buddha was vetted into the NY Tribal Show.
