19TH C. SILVER CAMBODIAN BUDDHA

Silver buddhas are relatively rare.  In this type, sheet of silver is worked over a core which can be made from several types of materials.  Then the designs are painstakingly chased onto the surface.  The Cambodians seem to do this the best, although you see some Thai pieces as well.   Almost always the silver does not survive well, and most ones you see are damaged, ripped, or missing parts.  This example is in excellent condition, with minimal wear.  He stands 11 1/2 inches high.  The work is very fine, with a temple inscription on the base.  $3200
